Part of the penalty area bounded by the goal line and two lines drawn at right angles to the goal line, each 5.5 m (6 yds) from the inside of the nearest goalpost, extending into the field of play for a distance of 5.5 m (6 yds) and joined by a line drawn parallel with the goal line.
A free kick awarded to the defending team inside its own goal area is taken from any point within the goal area. An indirect free kick awarded to the attacking team in the opposing team's goal area is taken from the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to where the infringement occurred.
